Terry Goddard Joins Arizona Police Officers to Remember Fallen Heroes

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 2, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard will join Police Officers from across Arizona this evening to remember those officers who died in the line of duty. The ceremony will take place in front of the Arizona Peace Officers Memorial in Wesley Bolin Plaza beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Terry Goddard Praises Passage of School Receivership Bill

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 4, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today applauded the State Legislature for adopting the School Receivership Bill (SB1476).  This legislation allows the State Board of Education to appoint a receiver if it finds a school district has been financially mismanaged.  

“This legislation ensures our children continue to receive an education while the financial situation is resolved,” Goddard said.  “It provides an effective tool to take over school districts where public funds are being mismanaged.”

Terry Goddard, Tom O'Halleran Say Revised Meth Bill Won't Stop Illegal Labs

(Phoenix, Ariz. - May 11, 2005) Attorney General Terry Goddard and Rep. Tom O'Halleran said changes made today by a legislative conference committee to the comprehensive methamphetamine bill passed by the House of Representative fall short of doing enough to stop meth production in Arizona.  

The amended version of SB1473 now awaits final legislative action.

"This stripped-down bill is a victory for the pharmaceutical lobbyists and a serious defeat in Arizona's fight against the meth epidemic," they said in a joint statement.

**Consumer Alert** Terry Goddard Warns Consumers About Cyber Scams

(Phoenix, AZ) Attorney General Terry Goddard today advised Arizona residents to beware of a variety of cyber scams called "phishing" and "pharming."

"ID thieves are becoming more sophisticated in their schemes," Goddard said. "It is important for Arizonans to understand these scams and protect themselves when using the Internet."

Phishing - What is it and how does it work?

"Phishing" refers to the practice of sending unsolicited e-mails to individuals for the purpose of identity theft.

Terry Goddard to Present Phoenix Children's Hospital with $70,000

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 18, 2005)  Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard will present Phoenix Children’s Hospital with $70,000 to support the hospital’s efforts to provide medication and treatment to low income children who suffer from asthma.  The presentation will be held at Ignacio Conchos Elementary School where the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Breathmobile will be hosting a clinic.  The event will be held on Monday – May 23 beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Terry Goddard Steps Up Tobacco Sales Enforcement to Minors

(Phoenix, Ariz. – May 20, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced its partnership with several local law enforcement agencies to further reduce youth access to tobacco in Arizona.

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office conducts undercover investigations throughout Arizona with the help of local police officers, checking retailers to determine their compliance with state laws that prohibit the sale of tobacco to minors.  During the investigations, youth volunteers pose as typical teenage customers and attempt to purchase cigarettes from the retailer.
