Terry Goddard Endorses Wireless Truth in Billing Legislation, Joins Arizona Corporation Commission

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 31, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today called on the Arizona State Legislature to adopt SB1213, the Truth in Billing legislation for wireless cellular service providers.

The legislation, sponsored by Senators Gabrielle Giffords and John Huppenthal, provides the Arizona Corporation Commission with the authority to assist consumers in resolving billing complaints with wireless telecommunications providers.

Scam Alert: Terry Goddard Warns Consumers that Scam Artists are Phishing for Financial Data

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 27, 2004)  Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard today warned consumers to be aware of an upsurge of e-mail scams, commonly known as "phishing" or "carding."   These e-mail messages appear to be from banks, governmental agencies, financial institutions, business firms such as PayPal®, eBay® or other Internet commerce transaction sites.  The e-mail messages look official because they include official-looking logos.

Attorney General Terry Goddard Supports Taser Legislation

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 26, 2005)  Regarding the stun gun legislation proposed today by Arizona House Speaker Jim Weiers, Attorney General Terry Goddard had this comment:

"My office is working on two issues in the Arizona State criminal code affecting stun guns.

"First, I want to provide more legal protection to law enforcement officers by allowing them to use deadly force, if necessary, to defend themselves if threatened with a Taseror other stun gun.  

Terry Goddard Settles with Data Collection Company that Shared Student Information with Commercial Organizations

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 13, 2005)  Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced a consumer protection settlement with the National Research Center for College and University Admissions (NRCCUA) after the company allegedly shared personally identifiable student data with commercial marketers, contrary to its claims that it shared information only with colleges, universities and other educational institutions.

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 11, 2005)  Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced an agreement with State Farm Mutual Insurance Company to compensate consumers who unknowingly purchased vehicles with questionable titles after the insurance company admitted it had failed to properly research those titles.

Terry Goddard Settles False Advertising Case for $152,000, Outlines Consumer Protection

(Phoenix, Ariz. – January 4, 2005)  Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard today announced the settlement of a consumer fraud action with a Tucson auto dealer for $152,000, one of the highest recoveries in state history for deceptive advertising claims.  Goddard announced the settlement during a press conference where he outlined consumer protection priorities for 2005.
