Horne Files Legal Appeal As EPA Tries To Force $1 Billion Scheme On Arizona Utilities & Customers For Pollution Control Effort That Would Have No Discernible Effect

PHOENIX (Thursday, January 31, 2013) -- An EPA attempt to force Arizona utilities to spend up to $ 1 billion for supposed pollution control measures that would not affect health or be visible to the human eye is being challenged in federal court by Attorney General Tom Horne. 

“This is an absurd action that would significantly raise utility rates for most Arizonans without providing any benefit to anyone,” Horne said.

Deceptive Auto Advertising Targeted By AG Horne

PHOENIX (Tuesday, January 29, 2013) -- Two cases involving allegations of deceptive automobile advertising practices have been settled in court action, Attorney General Tom Horne announced today.

In the first case, a Maricopa County judge has barred the owner of a now-defunct Louisiana vehicle sales marketing firm from advertising, selling, and leasing used or new vehicles in Arizona.

PHOENIX (Tuesday January 22, 2013) – Attorney General Tom Horne, Mohave County Supervisor Buster Johnson, Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan, Ruby Jessop, a 26 year-old mother of six, and her sister Flora will be available to the media at 2 PM this afternoon to discuss the successful effort to get Jessop and her six children out of Colorado City.

Horne Announces South Phoenix Crack Dealer Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

PHOENIX (Thursday, January 10, 2013) – Attorney General Tom Horne announced today that Toren Watson has been sentenced to an aggravated term of 12 years in prison for his role in a large-scale crack cocaine distribution ring in South Phoenix.

“Today we obtained a tough sentence for a crack dealer responsible for poisoning our Arizona neighborhoods and communities.  This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.  This office will see that drug dealers see the full force of the justice system,” Horne said.

Mortgage Ploy - Horne Issues Consumer Warning

PHOENIX (Wednesday, January 09, 2013) -- Arizona homeowners should be on the lookout for a mailing that appears to be a legal document, but may be a ploy against mortgage consumers, Attorney General Tom Horne said today.

The mailing comes in an envelope that appears to be an official legal or government document, but there is no company name or return address on the envelope or the letter itself.  A call to the toll-free number in the letter reveals the company as Fresh Start, based in New York.

US Supreme Court Rules Favorably On Death Penalty Case Personally Argued By AG Horne

PHOENIX (Tuesday, January 08, 2013) - The United States Supreme Court today unanimously reversed a Ninth Circuit decision that had permitted death row inmates to delay their federal appellate proceedings indefinitely based on a claim that they were not competent to assist their attorney. 

Attorney General Tom Horne personally argued the case on October 9, 2012.
